I work with people who may feel low, lacking direction, uninspired or losing their spark as a result of uncontrollable life events. Taking that first step and having a conversation, will give you the tools to alter your thinking which brings about positive changes that reignite your spark.
I believe that the relationship between client and counsellor is central to the therapeutic process, and through this connection, positive change and healing can occur. My focus is to build a safe, trusting, non-judgemental relationship where you are comfortable to be heard.
I have worked in a private practice and with Evolve Mental Health over the years before deciding to go on my own journey that is Aideen Neville Counselling. I hold a B.A in Counselling skills and youth studies and a B.A (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy. Currently I am pursuing a M.A in Counselling & Psychotherapy (Integrative Modalities.)
I am currently a pre-accredited member with the APCP (Association of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists in Ireland).
I am also a youth advocate for YAP Ireland which allows me to support young people and families to develop their resilience and achieve their goals.
I practice as an Integrative counsellor, using many different approaches including Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT and Humanistic. I always ensure I develop self-care tools which are needed at a pace that is just right & unique to you.
IN PERSON
Held in my office where I’ve tried to create a safe space that feels warm & homely. Upon entering, you are welcomed to sit on your own small couch opposite me where there will always be a box of tissues nearby for the times you might get upset or overwhelmed and a cushion to hold if you feel anxious.
ONLINE
Is a convenient option for those on the go to make life that bit easier. Often times, I will share my screen to explain diagrams and exercises which will allow you to take notes with ease.
Online sessions will be offered through Google Meet.
As a safety mechanism, our brains are wired to think of the worst case scenario first & we instantly believe that negative thought without question.
Try to remember this:
Just because you think it, doesn’t mean it’s true.
When we try to take action that takes effort it can feel uncomfortable and so we just stop, give up and forget about it. Growth is often uncomfortable, messy and full of feelings you weren't expecting, but it is necessary.
This week try to:
Start something brand new.
Majority of thoughts we have are a personal opinion and hold no evidence. We should try not to feed into thoughts which lead us to feeling unmotivated in life.
Try to remember this:
Is this a fact with evidence or just my opinion.
If we think of the million and one things we need/want to do each day we can feel quite overwhelmed and it leads to no action being taken. Just focus on the first step and build from there.
This week try to:
Nail down the first step.
